The newly updated Nook Touch reader from Barnes and Noble should be a big step towards the Nook mounting a serious challenge on the Amazon Kindle. For a long time, the Nook has been trailing the Kindle in a rather distant second place.
That’s no mean achievement, considering that a lot of readers have come and gone – simply disappearing off the market. Other perfectly good readers have simply struggled to make any inroads in the market and secure any market share. B&N’s achievement shouldn’t really be underestimated in any way.
There’s a lot to like when looking at the new Nook. The touch screen controls is the obvious big selling point – but the upgraded Nook also has page turns which are both faster and produce less flashing than other readers, including the Kindle. The lack of a QWERTY keypad also means that the Nook can be made smaller and lighter.
